Little Free Libraries of New Britain

Our Little Free Libraries are community-based book boxes, installed in strategic locations across New Britain to spread the love of reading and the joy of discovery.

Leisure reading behavior is a key predictor of educational success, and the elimination of ‘book deserts’ has been cited as a way to address the structural inequalities that compromise children’s reading development. In light of this, the New Britain Public Library is launching an innovative movement involving literacy advocates across the city, working together to ensure that books are readily available to children in New Britain.

The New Britain Public Library embraces its role as a beacon of learning and is deeply committed to expanding access to books and educational resources throughout the community. With the placement of Little Free Libraries across New Britain, the library in collaboration with the Friends of the Library will provide residents with diverse books, authors, and culturally relevant stories that reflect and celebrate the city’s vibrant population.
